FATHER'S WHISKERS

Click the banjo button to hear the band play as you
sing.

We have a dear old father for whom we
nightly pray.
He has a set of whiskers. They're always in the way.
CHORUS:
Theyre always in the way. The cows
eat them for hay.
They hide the dirt on Fathers shirt. Theyre
always in the way.
Father had a strong back but now its all caved in.
He stepped upon his whiskers and walked up to his chin.
(Sing the CHORUS)
We have a dear old sister, Her name is Ella Mae.
She climbs up Fathers whiskers and braids them all the
way.
(CHORUS)
We have a dear old brother. He drives a ford machine.
He uses Fathers whiskers to strain the gasoline.
(CHORUS)
We have a dear old mother. She likes his whiskers too.
She uses them for dusting, and stirring up the stew.
(CHORUS)
Around the supper table we make a merry group,
Until Dear Fathers whiskers get tangled in the soup.
(CHORUS)
When father goes in swimming, no bathing suit for him.
He ties his whiskers around his waist, and merrily plunges
in.
(CHORUS)
More:
We have a dear old sister,
It really is a laugh,
She sprinkle's father's whiskers
As bath salts in her bath.
Father fought in Flanders,
He wasn't killed, you see,
His whiskers looked like bushes
And fooled the enemy
We have a dear old mother,
With him at night she sleeps,
She wakes up in the morning
Eating Shredded Wheat.

The rhythm of the song is like a
Limeric. If you know a good one, sing it to this tune.

Do you recognize the melody? Try these words:
The Noble Duke of York,
He has three thousand men.
He marched them up to the top of the hill,
And marched them back down again.
When We're up we're up.
When we're down we're down,
And when we're only half way up,
We're neither up nor down.

Also try these words:
Ninety-nine bottles of pop on the wall,
Ninety-nine bottles of pop.
If one of those bottles should happen to drop,
Ninety-eight bottles of pop!
Ninety-eight bottles of pop on the wall,
Ninety-eight bottles of pop.
Take one down and pass it around,
Ninety-seven bottles of pop.

Here are some more:
A hunting we will go.
A hunting we will go.
We'll catch a fox,
Put him in a box
and then we'll let him go.
Do you know any more goofy rhymes?
We'll catch a goat and put him in a boat.
We'll catch a whale and put him in a pail.
We'll catch a cat and put him in a ..........
We'll catch a snail and put him in a ..........

Catch a frog and put him in a bog. [a bog is a swamp]
Catch a John and put him on a lawn.
Catch a bat and put him in a hat.
Catch a whale [or a snail] and send him in the mail.
From,
John D. from Tamura School

We caught a bear and tied him in a chair,
we caught a frog and put him in a log,
there was nothing left to do,
so we decided to stir them in a pot of stew!
We caught a mouse and tied him to the house,
we found a cat and put him in a hat,
there was nothing left to do,
so we decided to stir them in a pot of stew!
(And boy that stew was good! Mmmmmmmmm!)
